Manurewa Central Middle School Production

Last Friday, the Middle school did their end of year performance and it was about water. I was at their school and in the auditorium. It was in the morning.

In the show there were two actors that did all the talking. There also was a funny person who said some funny things. All of their names were: Chetna; Nikhil and Dohnivan. (Dohnivan was the funny person).

My favourite part was the ukulele group. The ukulele song was called "One Day a Taniwha".  The children in the ukulele group were wearing green T-shirts and also there were children in the background singing. Their t-shirts were blue and they had microphones too, so they could sing. The ukulele people were singing too. The ukulele players kept in time together and their strumming was lively!

The other songs and dances were beautiful too. The whole entire performance was very interesting for people who didn't know about water and who were watching. I'm sure the parents enjoyed watching and were proud of their kids.

If you missed out that would be very sad because it was a lovely performance. Please come next year!

Manurewa Central Middle School Production

Last Friday the middle school put on a performance for the parents in the auditorium at 9:30 in the morning. The middle school wanted to show off their wonderful talents for ukulele, dancing, singing and drama.

The theme was water because water is our school topic. First a group of gorgeous girls dance to a song about the water cycle. I liked the part when Uncle Dan pops out of the rubbish bin. Uncle Dan was in a yellow suit.

Second there was ukulele and they did a song called One Day a Taniwha.  The singers wore a blue t-shirt and the ukulele players wore a green T-shirt.  It was wonderful.

Next was a groovy dance called Proud Mary. There were only handsome boys in that dance. It was awesome when two boys did a cartwheel. They were wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt.

Fourth was Singing in the Rain. It must have been tiring for them because they did heaps of cool moves. They did a hip hop dance.

Last of all Let It Snow. It was wonderful because it had jazzy moves, soft moves, fun moves and ballet moves.

My favourite dance was Singing in the Rain. The girls wore a black t-shirt, a black skirt with white polka dots The boys wore a silver vest and black shorts. They were nice to watch because they kept in time with each other.  There were a lot of funny bits like when a girl waves like a queen and a boy shows his muscles. There was a cool bit when some people poked their head out on the left and some people poked their head out on the right. Then they spread out again.

If you missed it, come next year because it was fabulous.

Middle School End of Year Production

On Friday 9.30 am in the morning the Middle School did their Production. All the kids families came to see their awesome talent. It was in the Auditorium which is next to the Library. There were a whole lot of dances, singers and actors, who performed beautifully.

Do you know how important water is? The theme was all about water! The main actors who helped us to learn about water were caring Chetna and nice Nikhel. All the songs and dances were all about water.

My favourite dance was Let it Snow, which was taught by magnificent Ms Madden. The dance was about Snowflakes falling gently from the sky, as soft as a blanket. It was a group of 20 spectacular girls. The music was a slow, soft song. They kept altogether smoothly. This was great.  They wore a pale white t shirt and a magical fluffy skirt.

It was a terrific dance I can’t wait to see another dance like that again! The whole production was great. The people who didn’t get a part were great at singing.

People who missed the production this year please come next time!

Middle School End of Year Production

Last Friday middle school did a performance in the auditorium to show the parents their unique talents. It was fantastic. I think they proved that they had fantastic talents.

First up their theme was about water. You know how important water is, right?

Secondly, they did a dance called: The Water Cycle.  Wow, won’t they be dizzy after all that twirling?

But my favorite part of that song or dance was when Uncle Dang pops out of a garbage bin.

Third, was a group of kids playing an instrument called ukulele. The song was about a taniwha. Their costumes were green t-shirt and shorts.  In the background there were singers to support the ukulele people’s singing.  It’s really hard to strum and sing at the same time. But I have to say that they strummed together nicely. It sounded just like heaven.

Fourth was the second dance called: Proud Mary. They must be proud of their dance. The thing  that really amazed me was when two boys did a cartwheel.  I couldn’t believe what I saw. I thought it was ridiculous to see boys doing things that girls mostly do.

Next was a dance called: Singing in the Rain. I loved how they swooped down to 3 lines and some of their heads went one way and the others went the other way. The boys had moustaches which were hilarious. The song really reminded me of the rain.

The last dance was - Let it Snow.  It was beautiful. They looked like icy snowflakes gently floating down from the sky.

It’s hard to choose but I loved Let it Snow.  It was taught by marvelous Ms. Madden. There were 30 magnificent girls. They wore pale white t-shirts and a magical fluffy white skirt. They danced together nicely. It looked magical, like we were in an enchantment. I wished there was dance like this every year.

That was a fantastic show. I really enjoyed it.  People who missed it, must come back next year to see the Middle Schools performance.

Water Filter Experiment

We had a wonderful visitor from Watercare Services come to our class to talk about where water comes from and how it gets to our houses and our school. We had lots of fun experimenting with different filters to see which one gave us the cleanest water.

Crowned at Sparkle Mountain

Once upon a time a sixteen year old girl named Athoneya was walking into the forest by the pond to get some roses for dinner. ”For some reason, every evening all the animals disappear. It is very strange,” she said.

She picked some red apple roses. “It smells so delightful”, she said. I had better go straight home. When she nearly got out of the green forest, she heard a shuffling noise. “What is that noise?” she said. She saw a person following her.

"Run!” screamed Athoneya. She sprinted as fast as she could but the person was too fast. The person ran up and caught her. “Yes it is me the evil Queen. You will never be prettier than me. I will lock you up in a castle for as long as I can. I will be the pretty one, not you.”
Athoneya fell asleep for ten years!  She felt very strange. “Where am I? Help! Help!”  “You are in a bubble gum trap forever; you will never be prettier than me now.” Then the queen quickly darted off.
Athoneya had an idea. I know this castle is made out of bubble gum so I can eat some of it, and then I can get out. When she was just going to take a bite, she saw some right next to her who said, “That won’t work.”  “Ahh!” Athoneya dramatically screamed.
“It’s all right it’s just me, Zoe.” “Zoe? Who are you?” “I am a super hero from hundreds of years ago. The Queen gave me eternal life so I can be stuck in here forever.” “Well not for much longer anymore,” Athoneya said.
She unlocked the spikey chains off Zoë’s hands. “You will be crowned at Sparkle Mountain, Athoneya.” “Ok,” she said. “So how will we get out?” Zoe asked. “Open the windows and I will use my plant powers,” replied Athoneya. “But wait,” Zoe said. “What plant should we grow?”
“A huge beanstalk. So when my plant grows, jump! 321 GO!“

Zoe and Athoneya jumped. “This plant is not high enough,” Athoneya said. “Grow, Grow! That’s better. There it is. I can see Sparkle Mountain now.”
“Where is it?” “By Crystal Lake. We’re going to fly now.”
They spread their wings like fluttering ballerinas. After 20 minutes, they were there. They flew as fast as they could to the throne. “Quickly, the Queens coming. Hop on the throne. I can catch you now.”
Pop! The Queen turned into splattered bubblegum because Athoneya sat on the throne.  “Yes!” They shouted.

And off they walked out of Sparkle Mountain.

Howick Historical Village

Last Thursday, Room 16, 17 and 20 went on an amazing bendy bus to Howick Historical Village to learn about the 1850s. When we got there we saw some old fashioned women.  Brooke

When we came off the exciting bus, we went to the first activity. It was making butter. Then we got started. We stirred a butter churn. We sang the butter song. It goes like this …

“Come butter, come

Peter stands at the gate

Waiting for some butter cake

Come butter come.”            Siobhan.

Next the lady washed the butter so it can last long time and it is clean. Then she put a cloth called muslin over the jar. She took the butter out of the jar. Next she tapped it with some things called butter hands.   Karanbir

We put the butter onto crackers. It was delicious. Next we went to the play area. We played with some toys.  I played with the diablo. The diablo was something that we had to throw up and we had to catch it on the diablo string.  Demetri

Miss Hill showed us some games. I played with the walking blocks. I nearly went for long but I fell down. I didn’t hurt myself.   Stacey

We played horse riding, skipping with a rope, swords with the round things and ring toss.  Kaiila

We played Spot the Difference. We had to search for certain items in every house that were different from what we used in everyday life 100 years ago. There were items such as a hot water bottle and glasses and we found an iron.      Okusitino

Next we went to Victorian school. All of the boys and girls lined up first. We had to wipe our feet on the mat. She checked our hands and nails.  Karanbir

We wrote with a charcoal on a slate. I learnt the 5 times tables.   Jagrith

Next we went on the bus to school. My favourite part was Spot the Difference because I liked looking in all the old houses.  Demetri

Looking at all that chocolate...

It was a deep, rainy night and I was playing  Assassins Creed 3.  Suddenly I heard the door slam! I was very frightened. I paused the game and sprinted outside. I saw two people all dressed in black taking a box out of a van, when they saw me they darted into their car and drove off! I curiously peeped inside the box and saw CHOCOLATE ! I was  LOOKING AT ALL THAT CHOCOLATE! My mouth was watering. It looked so delicious. I heard foot steps so I quickly ran back to bed and pretended to sleep. I was suddenly dreaming about all that chocolate melting in the rain.

Looking at all that chocolate

One night when I was in bed I saw a light shining on my face. I followed it but suddenly it disappeared. I thought it was just a dream. Then I heard that sound again. I thought something was going to explode! Hundreds of chocolates erupted in my face! I thought I was in heaven. Looking at all that chocolate made my mouth water. It was like I was in a dream. It was the best time ever. I was so excited. Then I pressed a button then all of the chocolates flashed away. I couldn’t just believe it. Victoria

Wild Hair Portraits

Follow this link to view these portraits.
http://gailarm.tumblr.com/

The wild hair idea for these portraits came from Mrs Maudlin's blog at

We have learnt about the shape and proportion of our features and our face. We also learnt to use line to create movement and texture. We used complementary colours to create bright, bold, beautiful portraits. We hope you like them.

What If I Lived Under the Sea ...

I was under the sea at my house and I rang on my shell phone so the seahorses could pick me up.

Then I went to Fish City to see all the types of fish like snapper. It cost ten clams to enter. I went to see a stingray and octopus.

Next I went back to my house and had a shower. I used a starfish to wash my body. Then I was playing with my puff fish ball. Me and my sea dog were watching Pearl TV about all types of cities underneath the sea with all types of pearls.

For my birthday I ordered a clown fish to come to my party. All my friends came over and we had jellyfish sandwiches and coral cake. We went to Shell City. You get to go on rides. I went on the Clam Splash first. It was so scary I spewed on the ride. I played moon jumpers. You had to bang the moons when they came up. I won a seadog teddy. It was fluffy and soft.

After that I was so tired that I snuggled into my blanket and shut my big brown eyes and went to sleep.
