Last Thursday, Room 16, 17 and 20 went on an amazing bendy bus to Howick Historical Village to learn about the 1850s. When we got there we saw some old fashioned women. Brooke
When we
came off the exciting bus, we went to the first activity. It was making butter.
Then we got started. We stirred a butter churn. We sang the butter song. It
goes like this …
“Come butter,
come
Peter
stands at the gate
Waiting for
some butter cake
Come butter come.” Siobhan.
Next the lady washed the butter so it can last long time and
it is clean. Then she put a cloth called muslin over the jar. She took the
butter out of the jar. Next she tapped it with some things called butter hands. Karanbir
We put the
butter onto crackers. It was delicious. Next we went to the play area. We played with some toys. I
played with the diablo. The diablo was something that we had to throw up and we
had to catch it on the diablo string. Demetri
Miss Hill showed us some games. I played with the walking
blocks. I nearly went for long but I fell down. I didn’t hurt myself. Stacey
We played horse riding, skipping with a rope, swords with the
round things and ring toss. Kaiila
We played Spot the Difference. We had to search for certain items
in every house that were different from what we used in everyday life 100 years
ago. There were items such as a hot water bottle and glasses and we found an
iron. Okusitino
Next we went to Victorian school. All of the boys and girls
lined up first. We had to wipe our feet on the mat. She checked our hands and
nails. Karanbir
We wrote with a charcoal on a slate. I learnt the 5 times tables. Jagrith
Next we went on the bus to school. My favourite part was Spot
the Difference because I liked looking in all the old houses. Demetri
Keep up the good work from winkie...
